In 2021, the Montana Legislature passed House Bill 279 that made significant changes to the Innovative Educational Program. Taxpayers can receive a dollar for dollar credit on their State Taxes up to $200,000 for donations made to public schools to support Innovative Educational Programs such as:

Services, Equipment and programs for students with disabilities
Post-Secondary Credit or Career Certifications for High School Students
Technology purchases that improve student opportunities
Work Based Learning Partnerships

This year, the State made $6 million available for credits to taxpayers. This opportunity is on a first come first serve basis and within 1 hour and 12 minutes those credits were claimed. Due to a few donations being invalidated, the State is opening back up credits that can be claimed on September 23rd.
