First, the person must be qualified to run. Any person qualified to vote in a district is eligible for the office of Trustee. Qualified to vote means: at least 18 years old; a resident of the state and county for at least 30 days; and a US citizen.

However, you cannot be an employee of the District and if a person was convicted of a felony they cannot hold office until final discharge from State supervision. The candidate must also be registered to vote, prior to the filing deadline.

Deadline to file for candidacy is Monday, February 9th, 2026. A Declaration of Intent and Oath of Candidacy must be filed with the School District Clerk, Tara Johnson, at the CPC located at 444 Montana Avenue, Deer Lodge, MT 59722. The form can be located below.
